Car makers think ‘road tax’ exists

No Road Tax, says Volvo, sort of correctly

Thanks to all those who keep sending in proof that car companies and garages like to perpetuate the myth of ‘road tax’.

There are many examples out there and iPayRoadTax.com gets sent lots of pix and links to TV adverts.

The banner on this Volvo garage gets it right, although unwittingly. Yes, there is no road tax.

I sent them an email and asked that it be passed on to their marketing team. I also mentioned that its shouted from cars as a form of abuse. If I get nonsense back I may go to the ASA on grounds of accuracy.

Listen to Classic FM or Wave 105 down in the south and you’ll hear adverts from Toyota as well as those already mentioned on here all saying “road tax”. rnrnIts silly really as we’re the wrong people to be reminding people why they pay what they pay. That needs to come from Government and be broadcast nationwide on the TV imo before people start to realise.

I see Peugeots new ad on TV ‘Just add fuel’ states 3 years free road tax, yet again completely wrong.

I’m no car expert but I think Shaun is right, it’s not a hybrid. Just a low-ish CO2 spewer.

To be pedantic, the Volvo C30 in the poster isn’t the Drive model either. The car is obviously the sports model and not the more boring looking Drive which has almost solid aerodynamic wheels. So that model pictured won’t do 74.3mpg and WILL require VED.

It’s not a hybrid Tom. It’s a 1.6l Diesel with modified bodywork, gear ratios changed for MPG not performance and low rolling resistance tyres (ie. no grip).

At least it’s an ad for a hybrid…

The Ad is clearly misleading, take it up with the ASA!
