I never got the impression that i pay road tax was only for car owning cyclists. I'm one of those cyclists who sold their car and went solo cycle. In no way did I feel left out. rn Here in America, too, there is a lot of confusion by motorists about how the roads are paid for. Most motorists think it's the gas tax, or insurance, or some other un-named tax that they automatically assume that cyclists don't pay. They don't really know nor care. They really believe that, as in every thing else American, that might makes right which translates into "I'm driving a two-ton plus vehicle and you're riding a welded set of pipes that weighs all of 20 or 30 lbs. I win. I'm bigger." The tax paying issue is really secondary and comes up when someone points out that cyclists have a legal right to use the roads. Then, the childish, dumb-downed American whines, "Oh, they don't pay the same taxes and fees we are mandated by law to pay! It ain'it fair!" rn Actually, all we cyclists do pay all those same fees. But, don't expect an American to comprehend this truth.
